General Waste

When you start de-cluttering your home or getting rid of old furniture and appliances, you’ll be amazed at how much space you have. It’s important that you hire the best bin to get rid of your general waste. This waste type is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way of keeping your home free from unnecessary mess.

In many instances, this type of waste is often left out on a kerb or nature strip by homeowners after they’ve completed spring cleaning. One of the issues with doing this is that pickers will often rummage through the waste, which can result in waste items being left all over the place. When you hire a skip bin from Matt’s Skip Bins, the only thing that you’ll need to worry about is what you’re going to do with all that extra space!

Disposable Materials

Disposing of general waste in our skip bins needs to be done according to certain specifications. If you hire one of our general waste skip bins, the items that you can put in are mostly household items, such as furniture and appliances.

Items that shouldn’t be placed in our general waste skip bins include bricks, concrete, soil, food, liquid or large green waste items. If you’re looking to dispose of items such as this, don’t worry. We have skip bins that are made to dispose of a range of items, including building waste and green waste.

Loading your general waste skip bin properly

When loading your general waste into a skip bin please make sure not to fill above the rim. Overflowing your skip bin not only has the potential to make the area surrounding the bin dirty, but it also makes it very difficult for us to transport the bin without waste falling on the way back to our yard.

If you’re planning a garage clean-out or a spring-cleaning project, make sure you have the right bin for the job. We encourage you to load as much as you can in the bin just remember not to load past the rim. If you have any further enquiries, contact us online or call our friendly team today on (02) 4708 2927.

Finding the perfect bin size

After choosing the type of bin that you’ll need for your clean-up, you’ll need to choose the right bin size. But, how do you determine the right bin size? The size of bin you’ll need will be determined by the size of the clean-up you’re doing, with larger clean-ups requiring larger bins.

At Matt’s Skip Bins, we have a range of skip bins that are designed to suit any size of job, from our small 2m3 skip bin, designed for spring cleaning and garage clean-outs, to our massive 10m3 skip bin, that’s designed for large scale projects, such as deceased estate clean-outs. Frequently Asked Questions

What size bin do I need?

Every job is different, but as a rough guide, one standard car trailer is around 1 cubic metre. If your rubbish is already sitting in a pile, a rough calculation to measure a cubic metre is the length of the pile x the width x the height = the cubic capacity. Check out our Skip Bin Size page for more information.

What can I put in the bin?

Each waste type is different. See our Waste Types page to make sure you select the correct waste type for your needs. There are a few items that we do not accept in any waste type such as food, liquid, asbestos (we do provide Asbestos-only bins), chemicals, oils, paints, fire extinguishers and gas bottles. There are a couple of items that we do accept but they incur an extra fee, including spring mattresses and tyres.

How high can I fill the bin?

Bins may only be filled to the rim, in order for our drivers to safely cover and transport the bin.

Where can my bin be placed?

Your skip bin may be placed on your property (usually on the grass or the driveway). If you require the bin to be placed on council land, you will need to obtain a permit from your local council before ordering the skip bin.

How long can I keep my bin?

Our standard hire for general household clean up bins is 5 days and our standard hire for building waste bins is 14 days. However, we are aware that things don’t always go to plan. If you require the bin longer or finish with it sooner, please contact us before the scheduled pick up date so we can accommodate your needs. We are always happy to be flexible as long as you provide enough notice.

How much notice do I need to give for delivery or collection of my bin?

Wherever possible we can provide same day service, but it is best to give at least a day’s notice to be safe. However, if you require a skip bin by a certain time you are best to give 2 days’ notice (For example, if you need to start using your bin at 7am on a Wednesday morning, it’s best to call on a Monday so the we can have the bin delivered on the Tuesday, ready for use first thing Wednesday morning). To find out more, visit our Book a Bin page.

Can I specify an exact delivery time?

You may request a preferred time and our allocator will always try to accommodate your needs but, in our industry, it’s very difficult to book an exact time as workloads vary by the hour! To be safe, always book your bin for delivery on the day before you intend to start using it.

What if I need to cancel my bin?

Please see our Terms and Conditions page.

How do I pay for my bin?

We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express over the phone. You can pay using PayPal or Credit Card via our website. Regular trade customers are welcome to apply for an account.
